Welcome and first bits of information

Welcome to the Africa 2014 Blog spot. I hope to use this blog to provide information and get your feedback as we prepare for our trip to Africa in 2014.

I have a list of around 50 people who have expressed interest in a volunteer/tourism adventure in Africa in the summer of 2014.

I am working with an organization called Gap Adventures (http://www.gapadventures.com/) where I have a friend and former student who is helping us organize a volunteer/tourism opportunity in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

The organization Gap Adventures offers one program that is quite similar to what I was imagining. It is a 13 day program and details are offered under the title: Project Tanzania and Safari and here is the link:

I would be happy to receive your feedback. Two weeks: too long? too short? just right?

I know summer 2014 is a long way off but there is a lot we can do in the next three years whether it involves raising money to fund a project, collecting materials for donation, reading books and learning about where we are going, learning some of the language and other things we can deal with in the months leading up to our trip.

Commitment to participate in this program will only be required when we begin the booking (probably in summer 2013). Until then, I hope you'll keep this opportunity to travel with friends and family a real possibility. Rebecca
